Do you see the stains on the brick? We're considering painting the house anyway, but if we don't.....how the heck do you get those off? I saw a home show a few months ago that dealt with this exact problem and they showed how to get rid of it with a simple homemade spray solution. Why didn't I write that down and file it away?
